The Industrial Postgraduate Programme (IPP), supported by the Economic Development Board (EDB), aims to develop a pool of postgraduate research talent in Singapore. The programme provides postgraduate students with industry-relevant training in both the academic and corporate Research and Development (R&D) environments. At the end of the training, graduates will take on R&D roles in the industry.

Eligibility
- Candidates must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.
- Candidates must meet the university’s minimum admission requirements for the relevant postgraduate research programmes.
- Candidates can be fresh graduates or existing employees of the respective partner companies.
Features
- Candidates would be enrolled in one of the university’s postgraduate research programmes and would have to fulfil the requirements of the university, as well as of the respective partner companies.
- Subsidised tuition fees will be fully covered, and monthly stipends will be provided for two years for the Master by Research Programmes and four years for the Academic Research PhD Programmes. Other benefits include insurance and conference funding.
- Candidates will work on jointly-identified research projects that are of specific interest to the respective partner companies.
- Each of the candidates will be jointly mentored by an academic co-supervisor from the university and a non-academic co-supervisor from the respective partner companies.
- Candidates are expected to spend at least 50% of their time at the respective partner companies’ research facilities to work on the research projects.
- Partner companies are based in Singapore, and have corporate R&D laboratories in Singapore. The university and respective partner companies would have formalised research collaboration agreements between one another in this scheme.
Interested companies will jointly scope research projects with identified SMU faculty members before submitting the research proposal to EDB for consideration.
